Am I...

so I want to ask all of my loyal readers a question...am I boring and/ or too self-centered? I don't think that I am, but really who would say that they are boring and self-centered?!? I know these are weird questions to ask but some stuff has been happening in my life lately and I really need to know your honest opinion...

being spontaneous...

before I start...here is a very funny website that you all should visit: Store Wars

so I decided to update y'all again on what is going on in my life...so...on Friday (7/22) I worked 7-2...I worked on one surgical patient and it took the whole morning...this dog, Princess, had her dewclaws removed, had a OVH (she was spayed) and had her entropion condition repaired. Entropion is when the skin around the eyes folds in and irritates the eye...it can cause corneal ulcers and is painful...so the doctor cut some skin away and sutured it, etc so hopefully it will heal ok...

anyway while the surgery was going on Jeanne came in and said that she was going to do a C-section that afternoon...so after the surgery on Princess was done I started setting up for the C-section...which is by the way my favorite surgical procedure to assist with!...so I got everything all set and the dog, Abby, came in...she was a very cute and sweet natured Norwich Terrier who was also very pregnant...so we got her down and on the table, and Jeanne let her owner come in the back during the surgery which was kewl. There were only 3 puppies (1 boy, 2 girls) and we were able to revive them and they started squeeking, etc...I was getting a little scared though because the puppy that I was working on was the last one born and took the longest to start squeeking. so it turned out good...so Friday was a GREAT day at work b/c all I did was surgery stuff which is my favorite!!!

then Friday night was awesome too...I went to the Brighton Field Days with Michelle and we saw a bunch of the girls from work there...we drank lots of beer (we were buying them by the 6 pack) and were jamming to the live bands...and then I saw a hot guy from across the crowd...so my friend Rachel dragged me over to him and we started talking. Rachel walked away and then the dude stopped talking...and just as I was about to walk away from him and go back to chill with the girls, this guy came up to me and started talking. his name is Matt...and we hit it off, we exchanged numbers and he said that he would call me the next day and we left it at that, b/c by that time everyone was calling over to me and saying it was time to leave. I was too trashed to drive so I slept at Michelle's...and then...

Saturday morning I felt really crappy and I had to go to work...so a Tim Horton's coffee and chocolate chip muffin were just what I needed...I was on the cat side and we were EXTREMELY busy...a cat came in that needed a debridement b/c of an abscess and maggots infesting its whole head...Jeanne let me take care of this case on my own...the cat had anesthesia and then I cleaned and shaved and flushed the whole area...it was really kewl...most of the time the techs don't get to do what we are qualified to do, so I was happy when Jeanne let me take care of this cat...and then we had 2 animals that needed barium series and one of them, a cat, turned out to be an exploratory surgery. When Jeanne cut open the cat's stomach, she pulled out a huge hairball...it was so big and coiled on itself that we could feel it through the abdomen while I was shaving and prepping the cat for surgery. In addition to this we were seeing regular office calls w/ vaccines and stuff like that...I was glad that I was busy though b/c it kept me awake...then after work I babysat Nicole & Julia in Canada till like midnight...I was like falling asleep the whole time! Matt, the guy from the night before called me and we made arrangements to get together later on Sunday

Then Sunday I slept till 12:30pm then I made Loki (one of Jeanne's dogs) a birthday cake (check my march 4, 2005 entry for a picture of Loki)...he will be 1 on Monday...and I figured I'd make his cake early since I was going to Jeanne's house for dinner. I ended up making a chocolate cake to bring to dinner too and it actually turned out good. So around 5 I got to Jeanne & Scott's house, Jess (a tech I work with) and her husband, Shawn were also there and we ate dinner and hung out. We had fun playing with the dogs and kids and Jeanne showed me all of the stuff I need to know for when I house/ petsit for them in August. I didn't end up leaving until like 10:30pm.

so that's it for now...I will post pictures very soon, I promise...I have like 1 more picture to use up on my camera before I get it developed...ciao for now...

update...

So yeah...sorry it's been a while since I've written in this blog but I have had lots going on that demanded my attention elsewhere...

So I saw Star Wars Episode III...it was good and tied everything together nicely...it was a bit corny at times but for the most part it was a good movie. I especially liked the "making of Darth Vador" at the end!...he's my fav...

Anyway, I have had parties to go to for the past few weekends and they were fun...last Saturday my cousin had her annual Chowder party...so we ate food, sat around, drank beer and then got eaten alive my mosquitoes! Last Sunday my friend Bob from work had a seafood party that was kewl...the food was good and it was fun...the punch got me a bit loopy too!...haha....

Moving on to this past week...I worked lots and ended up with 5 hours of overtime! yeah! On Friday I was in dog surgery and while I was waiting for a dog to wake up from anesthesia, I decided to pick her up and bring her to her kennel and wait for her to wake up in there so that the next dog could be put on the OR table...well usually this works out good...but this time as soon as I went to pick up the dog, she started flailing and arching her back (this is common behavior when they are waking up) and just when I was about to lift her, her head totally knocked into my cheekbone/ eye on the left side...it hurt like hell, so much so that I almost dropped the dog, but I got a hold of her and moved her back to her kennel. My face still hurts and it's 2 days later...and a black eye is forming slowly! eekk!

Last night I went to an Einstein party at Leslie & Paul's house...(Leslie is one of the doctors that I work with). Some people from work showed up and we all had a great time. After all of the people from work left around 10:30pm or so, I ended up staying until 12:30am. I started talking to Leslie's neighbors and friends and everyone was very nice. It was the best and most fun party that I have been to in a while! My carrot cake went over ok...although it tasted kinda funny to me!...oh well I don't know if people were just being nice or if they really liked it. I made it a theme cake though, i wrote on it with edible markers and it said "Einstein Rocks"...hehehe.

Today I am off to another party...Tina, my friend and fellow technician from work, is having a 2nd birthday party for her son...he are going to hang out, eat, swim and play volleyball...I hope it doesn't rain! A bunch of people from work are going, so we all will have a blast! Plus, I took tomorrow off from work just because I felt like it, so I won't have to wake up early!...woohoo!

As for the Vet School stuff...I registered to take the GRE again on August 24th...wish me luck! I am in the process of filling out the applications...they are all online so its kind of a pain in the ass!...I have also asked a bunch of folks to write letters of recommendation for me and they are working on them now so I can get my applications in my September! I am so nervous...but I am already thinking of specializing after I graduate from Vet School in something like Surgery, Dentistry or Pathology...I don't know...I guess I'll find out eventually!...

The list of schools where I am applying has been revised too...here are the schools where I am applying:
Cornell (in Ithaca, NY)
University of Illinois (in Urbana, IL)
Auburn (in Auburn University, AL)
Virginia-Maryland Regional (in Blacksburg, VA)
so that's it about Vet School for now...I am chugging along with the application process...my whole day off tomorrow will be devoted to my applications...eeekkk...it seems like I will never be done with all of this stuff!

One last thing...my scottie dog Travis was chosen to be in the 2006 Greenies Calendar! Greenies are edible bones for dogs that are green and shaped like a toothbrush at one end and like a bone at the other! They are great, and they help to freshen breath and break off dental calculus from the teeth...they are like doggie crack, all dogs love them. Travis loves them, so I entered him in the contest and he was chosen! You can look back at my May 30, 2005 post to see Travis eating a Greenie!

So that's it for now...I felt the need to update since I have been away a while from the blog! I will post pictures soon from all of my events, etc as soon as I use up the 10 pictures that I have left on my roll of film!...catch ya later...

happy july 4th

hmm...another july 4th has come and gone...last night i went to the seneca niagara casino, saw creedence clearwater revival on the main stage, ate at morrie's, won $35 on the slots and saw the fireworks. today i went to my cousin hub's house and hung out w/ their new cockapoo puppy, ate and swam, etc...then instead of seeing the fireworks my cousins and i lit sparklers and had fun w/ that...

just as an update, my knee MRI was normal and now I am wearing this patellar-tendon strap and it helps a bit i guess. all i have to say about this knee is "whatever."

i ended up getting a B- in biochemistry...my professor said i had a C+, but i noticed a mistake in her calculation of my grade, so i e-mailed her and she switched my grade...so yeah, i'm happy.

i have also turned into a HUGE Star Wars nerd...I had never watched the movies, but I borrowed them from some people at work and I am LOVING them...woohoo...after I watch the last one, Episode II, Attack of the Clones, I have to go see Episode III at the theater!...ok that's it for now...ciao!
