life is grand

well not really...but when i went to my meeting last monday (4/18) i found out that i lost another 5.2lbs and that i am only 0.2 pounds away from losing a total of 50 pounds (that means that i have lost a total of 48.8lbs so far)! 0.2lbs is like a stick of butter for those of you who care and need a visual...i don't think i came any closer to this goal this week b/c i ate a bunch of crap, like snack foods that i'm not suposed to have, etc...like ice cream and peanut butter...oh well, there is always next week...anyway...

while i was trying to do organic chem homework tonight i had MTV on in the background, and there was this show on in which the whole point of it was to show people who wanted to look like their favorite movie star so much that they get plastic surgery done in the hopes of being like the star. its a really dumb show...tonight the girl wanted to look like jennifer aniston...and she did even resemble jennifer a little bit...but its just sad that these people think a nose job, a boob job, tummy tuck and liposuction will make them happier people or make them look exactly like or act like their favorite movie star...then when that show was over, "pimp my ride" came on...that show is funny...its hosted by x-hibit (i may have spelled it wrong)...he is a funny guy...i watched 2 episodes...one where this girl had one of those old toyota vans from 1986...they put in stuff for her dogs, a computer, dvd player w/ lots of monitors and a custom built ms.pacman arcade game! it was a pimp mobile...she could live in there! the other episode had a girl who owned a really beat up 1955 chevrolet bel aire that she called "big bertha"...it was a hot car, but just extremely run down, i was surprised it was still running! they made that car white and hot pink 2 tone, put in satellite radio, dvd player w/ monitors, digital console and they even put in a mini closet in the trunk with a 3 way monitor system w/ cameras to be like a 3-way mirror...that was bizarre...like who gets dressed and does their hair and makeup out of the trunk of their car? anyway, those episodes were kewl...and i even got some homework done, go figure...

then i started watching napoleon dynamite that i rented today from blockbuster...its a funny movie...haha...but i started to fall asleep while i was watching it so i turned it off and now i'm online...but i am either going to go to bed now or turn the movie back on b/c i am pretty much done with this post...the bed won...its calling me...i am exhaused and my knee is killing me (and yes i am getting it checked out by my doctor in a few weeks) i think i have arthritis in it.

Right front leg amputation...

so today was an interesting day at work...i was in surgery and this dog named Mia needed her right front leg amputated...its kind of a long story, but in short, she got hit by a car and had some bad breaks and nerve damage and since the leg was wrapped and getting infected, smelly and oozy, amputation was the only treatment option, other than euthanasia, so the owners opted to have it done.

Mike was the surgeon and after he got into the surgery a bit he needed me to scrub in and hold the scapula up as he cut it free from the body. In dogs and cats the scapula is only held onto the body by muscles and the tendons and ligaments...and of course there are many blood vessels in there that like to bleed, so the whole point of the surgery was to cut the connections to the scapula in order to free the leg from the body...so here are the pictures...

this picture is from near the beginning of the surgery...

Mike is just starting to cut around the scapula to get it free...

the SCAPULA.....

Mike (the doc) is pulling on the scapula and i am holding the lower part of the leg...

the leg is almost free here...

this is me after the leg was disarticulated from Mia's body...i look thrilled don't I?
